Biography

Dr. Delia Smith is a board-certified pathologist with more than twenty-five years of experience in diagnostic anatomic and clinical pathology, laboratory medical directorship, and hospital-based pathology services. Throughout her career, she has provided comprehensive pathology services across community hospitals, regional healthcare systems, and private pathology practices, earning recognition for her leadership in laboratory operations, quality improvement, and patient care initiatives.

Dr. Smith earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident. She subsequently completed fellowship training in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology at Vanderbilt, developing advanced expertise in diagnostic pathology and laboratory medicine.

Her professional experience includes pathology and laboratory leadership roles throughout Mississippi, Florida, Washington, Tennessee, and Arkansas. She has served as Laboratory Medical Director for multiple hospitals and healthcare organizations, including Merit Health River Regional Medical Center, Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center, and Providence Centralia Hospital. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Smith has chaired infection control and quality committees and has remained actively involved in advancing laboratory excellence and patient safety. A Fellow of the College of American Pathologists, she is dedicated to delivering accurate, timely, and clinically meaningful diagnoses that support exceptional patient care.
