Dražen Marijan Jukić, MD, PhD

Dermatopathologist

Biography

Dr. Dražen Jukić is an internationally recognized dermatopathologist, educator, and innovator with more than three decades of experience in dermatopathology, anatomic pathology, pathology informatics, and digital pathology. Throughout his distinguished career, he has combined diagnostic expertise, academic leadership, and technological innovation to advance the practice of dermatopathology and improve diagnostic accuracy, education, and patient care.

Dr. Jukić earned his medical degree from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in Croatia and subsequently completed a PhD in Biomedical Sciences with a focus on oncology. Following residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn, where he served as Chief Resident, he completed fellowships in Oncologic Pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Dermatopathology, Informatics, and Genitourinary Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Dermatopathology.

Throughout his career, Dr. Jukić has held numerous academic and leadership positions, including faculty appointments at the University of Pittsburgh, the University of South Florida, the University of Florida, Mercer University School of Medicine, and the University of Zagreb School of Medicine. He served as Chief of Dermatopathology and Telepathology at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa and directed the Dermatopathology Fellowship Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He currently serves as Laboratory Director of Georgia Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center and continues to provide dermatopathology consultation services nationally.

A pioneer in digital pathology and telepathology, Dr. Jukić has led numerous research initiatives involving whole-slide imaging, artificial intelligence, pathology informatics, and melanoma diagnostics. He has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and scholarly works and has served in leadership roles with the American Society of Dermatopathology and the College of American Pathologists. His contributions to dermatopathology, education, and technological innovation have helped shape modern approaches to diagnostic pathology and continue to support physicians and healthcare organizations in delivering exceptional patient care.
