Biography

Dr. Razan Massarani-Wafai is a board-certified pathologist with more than thirty years of experience in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology, and cytopathology. Throughout her distinguished career, she has combined diagnostic expertise, academic leadership, and physician education while providing comprehensive pathology services across a wide range of clinical settings.

Dr. Massarani-Wafai completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Loyola University Medical Center, followed by fellowship training in Cytopathology. She subsequently joined the faculty at Loyola University Medical Center, where she served for more than two decades and attained the rank of Clinical Associate Professor.

During her tenure at Loyola, Dr. Massarani-Wafai held several leadership positions, including Director of the Cytopathology Fellowship Program and Director of the Head and Neck and Pulmonary Pathology Division. Her clinical expertise encompasses a broad range of diagnostic pathology services, with particular strengths in cytopathology and the evaluation of complex head and neck and pulmonary specimens. In addition to her clinical and educational responsibilities, she has contributed to the advancement of pathology through peer-reviewed publications in leading pathology journals.

Dr. Massarani-Wafai currently serves as Chief of Cytopathology at the Hines Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Illinois. She also provides after-hours pathology consultation services for NextGen Pathology, bringing decades of academic, clinical, and leadership experience to support high-quality diagnostic care and physician collaboration.
